Transcription as a job is not that all difficult. It really boils down to listening to an audio and typing out the content onto a word processor.
All it requires is language skills and typing skills.
Every person can do that in varying level of competence and expertise.
That said, these days companies only hire once in a while and number of transcribers is increasing day by day.
Therefore, transcribers have to find better ways at marketing themselves to secure suitable employment in this saturated market.
What really differentiates me from other transcribers is not really my skills - typing or transcribing.
It's not the fact that I registered myself at online jobsites like Naukri.com or have a Linkedin account.
I also use Facebook and Twitter to connect with other transcribers and transcription companies. And, I hope you do too.
I also used Google Alerts to capture any and every transcription job available.
Although all the above does prove helpful in keeping in touch with the transcription industry and colleagues in general, what really differentiates me from other transcribers is that fact that I write a transcription blog.
Why I write a transcription blog?
- A blog is my home online.
- I can express my opinions and be heard/read.
- I am establishing myself as someone who is at least slightly knowledgeable about transcription and its industry.
- People can always contact me via my blog - either through comments or my emails listed on this blog.
- This blog convinces a prospective employer or business partner that I am interested in the business.
- This blog allows me to meet people of same interests as myself.
- It is my online resume.
- It stretches my understanding on topics such as business, marketing, writing, transcription and lead generation.
I hope I've given you more than enough reasons why you should be online. If blogging is a daunting task try a Facebook page where you share links and contents on your business. Become a resource people find useful. Connect with others who are interested in the same business or hobbies as yourself.
